Bio-Spire, Cambridge
Ranked Third
The brief for the 2009 Corus student architectural competition was to design a building to house 1000 people as well as four other uses on a site no bigger than 900m2.
My response was a Bio-Spire 600m high spire divided into smaller clusters, each cluster has its own garden. The building was inspired by the church spires and green open spaces of Cambridge.
At the top of the spire there are three 30m vertical wind turbines to provide power to the building. The facade acts to regulate the temperate of the building.
